My name is Sangli and I am the district headquarter of Sangli district in Maharashtra, India. I am known as “turmeric city” for my immense contribution to turmeric production and distribution. The Ganesha temple is my most notable landmark and a major cause to pull tourist to my land. My original name was Sahagali. History of Sangli reveals, I am old as the 12th century AD. I was merged into Maharashtra after 1947.

I own a total land of 118.18 km2. and 513,862 my total inhabitants. Marathi is the official language, followed by Hindi and English. Mr. A. Y. Karche is the prevailing Municipal Corporation Commissioner. I enjoy an impressive literacy rate of 81.48% and Sangli city population is well educated. I am situated in between the Warna and Krishna rivers. This is why I enjoy good cultivable land and it boosts my agricultural production.

Climate and Weather in Sangli

I enjoy a semi-arid climate with 3 distinct seasons only a hot, dry summer from the middle of February to the middle of June, a rainy season from the middle of June to late October and a mild cool season from early November to early February. The total rainfall is around 580 mm. Rainfall is not very high. Do visit me in winter.

Sangli tourism is interesting as I offer several attractive places to visit here on my land. Dandoba (place of Lord Shiva at the mountain top surrounded by forest), Bhubeneshwari temple, Brahmanand Swamy Math, Narsobawadi, Ganpati temple, Irwin Bridge, the royal palace Rajwada, Ganapati temple, and Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary are some of the places that would definitely interest my visitors. I am connected to other important cities of Maharashtra well.

Culture in Sangli City

I, Sangli city, invite you to take a dip in my culture and experience uniqueness. Food habit of my people is characterized by lots of spice. Street food is thoroughly enjoyed. Eateries like restaurants an be located. Not very exciting night life compared to metro cities can be found here on my land. Food and beverages are available in plenty and there are pubs. Shopping destination can be located by my visitors, however; art and craft shops are witnessed mostly selling local art work. Ganesh Chaturthi is enjoyed with full enthusiasm and in spirit by people here and tourists have thronged my shores during such occasions. Come meet me when you have time, I would feel delighted!
