Situated at Maval Taluka, in the Pune district of Maharashtra, India; Bedse Caves are one of the beautiful caves. Bedse Caves are located on the old Mumbai- Pune highway near to Kamshet. Even though these caves are not much popular and not that much known to the people, they are one of the good caves to visit in Maharashtra near Pune.




Bedse caves are the oldest and wonderful Buddhist caves that trace their roots back in the 1st century BC. The place is blessed with beautiful greenery in the monsoons and there are a number of eye catching waterfalls which one can completely enjoy in the rainy season and hence the ideal time to visit the Bedse caves is the monsoon.

There are many attractive places to see near to Bedse caves.

Visapur Fort:

Visapur fort is located at a distance of around 22 kms from the Bedse caves. It is an ideal place for trekking lovers. Visapur fort is situated on an altitude of at around 4000 ft above the sea level and is a wonderful place. It is believed that Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used to monitor any movements if happened down the hill. The beautiful and great weather at this place is the prime attraction to the visitors.

Lohgad Fort:

Lohgad fort is one of the best places nearby and is located at about 15 kms from the Bedse caves. This fort is at the height of around 3400 ft high and it has four doors named as Ganesh Darwaja, Hanuman Darwaja, Narayan Darwaja and Maha Darwaja.

Pawna Lake:

The distance between Pawna Lake and Bedse Caves is around 37 kms and this lake was created artificially by a dam built on the Pawna River and is a good place to visit.

Bhaja Caves:

Bhaja caves are situated at around 21 kms from the Bedse Caves and are one of the oldest and beautiful Buddhist caves in the Maharashtra. The best time to visit Bhaja caves is the rainy season when the climate is simply beautiful.

Tung Fort:

Tung fort is one of the best and strongest forts in the Maharashtra and is situated at a distance of around 33 kms from the Bedse Caves. The fort was built by Maratha rulers and the height of the hill where the fort is located is at about 3500 fts. The Tung fort was purposefully built at such a height saving it from enemy attacks that time.

    I live close to this beautiful place and have visited a number of times. Best time to visit is during sunrise as these are east facing caves.
