The Archaeological survey after examining the Ajanta caves declared it as the finest specimen of Indian art and the best religious work of the Buddhists. The most beautiful being the Ajanta Caves paintings. Can you take your eyes off the beautiful and artistic mural paintings? They have elaborate depiction of Jataka tales with images of Buddha. The history of Ajanta Caves goes back to 1819. I was literally discovered by a British or to say a surprise discovery when this British was on a hunting trip in 1819.

The main attractions of the Ajanta Caves alongside the splendid display of Buddhist heritage are the mural paintings. They are unique because of the entirety of the paintings and the way they have been preserved within the panorama of pre Islamic environment and the way this ancient art form has survived.

They are exemplary work that could have been produced by any artist. The murals are so delicately and beautifully carved out that it is beyond the imagination of anyone. The paintings at Ajanta Caves deal extensively with the life of Lord Buddha and are completely based on Jatakas and other Buddhist literary tests.

All this make Ajanta Caves Aurangabad a major tourist attraction of Maharashtra and it draws tourist from all over the world. The government of Maharashtra has taken special care of the easy access to Ajanta Caves and this site is under complete maintenance of the archaeological survey of India.
