The best way to enjoy nature’s beauty could be a visit to the beach. With a lot of beaches around, one can easily enjoy the exotic beauty of Mother Nature. Located at a distance of 77 km from Mumbai, Bassein has a serene atmosphere. Somewhat similar to Goa beaches with a little less population, Bassein is known for its historic forts apart from the prominent beach. These historic forts were built by Portuguese within the dense areas of brushwood and palm grooves.




Some of the tourist places at Bassein beach include Buddhist relics at Nalasopara, Akoli hot springs, Bhimeshwar temple, churches, Vajreshwari temple and many ashrams.

Vasai Fort:

Vasai Fort was built by Gujarat King Bahadur Shah. It was later taken over by the Marathas. The fort is surrounded by water from three sides and a small citadel inside the Vasai fort attracts the tourists.This is one of the best sightseeing points at Bassein Beach.

Buddhist Relics:

Buddhist relics at Nalasopara were believed to have discovered as early as in 17th and 18th centuries. This place was supposed to be the birthplace of Gautama Buddha in his previous birth.

Vajreshwari Temple:

Apart from these places to see at Bassein beach, the notable one is the Vajreshwari temple. Located at a distance of one hour from Bassein, this temple has goddess Vajreshwari as its presiding deity and one of the best places to see near Bassein beach. It is believed that worshippers of this goddess get all their wishes fulfilled. Such power is that the staunch faith of devotees brings about prosperity to them. This place is also known for its hot springs apart from the temple.

Akoli Hot Springs:

Known as Akoli hot springs, this also takes a total driving time of one hour from Bassein beach. These springs are known to possess healing power that is mainly because of the presence of sulphur content in it. There have been incidents wherein this spring has cured people of their ailments such as skin diseases and rheumatic disorders.

Ganeshpuri:

Closer to this, there is another township called Ganeshpuri to see amongst the notable places to see at Bassein beach. This town houses the famous Siddhapeeth Ashram and is very close to Akoli hot springs.

Nityanand Maharaj Samadhi Mandir:

Sightseeing at Bassein beach is loaded with fun as one can take a trip to the nearby churches that have been constructed during the Portuguese times. Apart from all these, there is a famous ashram by the name Nityanand Maharaj Samadhi Mandir that should be definitely visited.
