Located in the northern part of Amravati district of Maharashtra, and situated between the Gawilgadh range of the Satpura Hills and Tapti River Melghat Tiger Reserve is one of the first nine notified tiger reserves in India. With unending hills and ravines, steep climbs, jagged cliffs – this hill forest boast of a stunning wild life including the Bengal Tiger and is every year visited by thousands of tourists from all over the country.

How to Reach Melghat Tiger Reserve by Road

Melghat Tiger Reserve is located close to Chikhaldara (25km) which is a popular hill station and well connected with several major cities and towns in Maharashtra. Distance of Chikhaldara from Mumbai is 763km and distance from Pune and Hyderabad is 562km and 642km respectively. Nagpur at a distance of 230km and Amravati at a distance of 100km are closer to Chikhaldara and state transport corporation buses from all these cities to Chikaldara are regularly available. Buses and private rented vehicles from Chikhaldara to Melghat National Park play regularly. Tourists can also hire jeeps arranged by the Forest Department for traveling inside the reserve.

How to Reach Melghat Tiger Reserve By Train

Badnera and Amravati under the Bhusawal-Badnera section of Central railway are the two closest railway station to Melghat Tiger Reserve. Badnera is well connected by rail with Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Nagpur and tourist from all over India can easily reach it by rail. The Mumbai-Howrah Express, Ahmedabad-Howrah Express and Ahmedabad-Madras Navjeevan Express are some of the trains those halt at Badnera. Maharashtra: the Kolhapur-Nagpur Maharashtra Express and Bhusaval-Nagpur Passenger Train can also be taken from Nagpur to reach Badnera by train.

How to Reach Melghat Tiger Reserve By Air

Amravati airport located at Belora at a distance of 15km from Amravati is the closest domestic airport to Melghat Wildlife Sanctuary. Another domestic airport is in Nagpur which is well connected with most other domestic as well international airports in India.

    Melghat is one of the best place to see tigers. I have visited Melghat last year and found that many international tourists are attracted towards Melghat tiger reserve. It is pride of India.
